In the 1940s, the parish priest of Warleggan made cardboard parishioners and propped them in the pews. Nobody went to his regular Sunday services because when they did turn up he was incredibly rude to them. He delivered his sermons to his cardboard flock instead.

Built by Sir Richard Edgcumbe of Cotehele in his deer park in 1547 and completed in 1553, this Tudor house was hit by bombs in 1941 and restored between 1958 and 1964. The park, with a Grade 1 historic garden and National Camellia collection was the first landscaped park in Cornwall and includes the Earl's Garden with its ancient and rare trees. House and garden are both packed with treasures.
Built between 1485 and 1627 Cotehele was home to the Edgcumbe family for nearly 600 years. Surrounding the house are informal gardens and grounds that stretch down to a quay that was once a bustling river port. Secluded in the wooded Morden Valley are craftsmen's workshops and a working watermill, producing flour that is available to buy.
